Trunk Fest being held at Kennesaw First Baptist Church, Kennesaw, Ga., Wed. Sept. 29, 2014, 5:30 – 7:00

If you live in the Kennesaw area be sure to travel to this year’s Trunk Fest this Wednesday, the 29th, from 5:30 – 7:00.
FREE…FREE…FREE…FREE..FREE…FREE…FREE…FREE…

I have been involved with preparing 3 of the Trunks, and have heard leaks of what some of the other ones are. You and your kids are sure to enjoy. Also, this year, it is a separate event from the local Halloween night. So, kids can get double enjoyment, or just limit it to Trunk Fest where you know it is safe.

See you there!

Callaway Gardens – Sky High Balloon Festival

Balloon glows and tethered balloon rides at Callaway Gardens.

Balloon glows and tethered balloon rides at Callaway Gardens.

Do you have labor day weekend plans? Callaway Gardens has plans for celebrating the holiday. The feature is the hot air balloon festival, with balloon glow events at night on Friday, and again on Monday. In between those times you can ride the balloons into the sky, but tethered to provide a safer ride.

That’s nice enough, but also the 2014 National Wakesurfing Championship is taking place. No, Georgia does not have an ocean beach with huge surfing waves. But, wakesurfing is very popular in many parts of the US. You can see the multi part event take place, and see who will become the new champion.

Who will be the 2014 National Wakesurfing Champion?

But like they say in the sales commercials “that’s not all”. With this festival there are plenty of activities for the whole family. A kid’s zone, dog disc demo, skydiving demo, pyrotechnik demonstration, 5K race, and triathlon will be available. Want to learn how to master night photography? There is a course you can sign up for.

All of this and more would make a memorable Labor Day weekend. For more information and admission prices, see the Callaway Gardens page which gives the schedule for the weekend.

The middle school students and chaperones who chose to serve on a mission trip to Helen, Georgia for a couple days the first week in June are featured in this video. The work they were doing was serving the Helen, Ga. area and supporting the work of the Georgia Mountains Resort Ministry, which is part of the Georgia Baptist Convention. Keith Ivey is the director of the resort ministry, his team and him were wonderful to work with.

Spring Has Sprung?

These beautiful flowering plum trees have been blooming in Kennesaw, Georgia for about a week. I took a picture of them today, because from experience, I know that tomorrow they will look like brown mush. The predicted low tonight is 27F. WHAT! Wonderful signs of Spring, and the coldest we have had all winter all at the same time. At least it has been very sunny. Yes, you got it Georgians, no snow in sight.

Here are a few more Spring beauties. The Daffodil blooms might be affected, but the ones that haven’t bloomed yet will have no problem.

Here are some blooms that look like roses, but are Camellias. They are winter flowers, and bloom in January, February, and March. These blooms will not be troubled at all. They are nicknamed the Southern Rose. Can you see why?

When Will It Stop Raining?

While we were in Linköping, Sweden, it rained nearly every day. Not always for a long time, but the rain came most days. My husband, Daren asked one of his colleagues at work, “When does it stop raining in Linköping?” His answer was, “When it starts snowing.” We received this picture from a friend in Linköping today.

The temperature in Linköping today is -13C, or 9F.

Oh, Linköping, did I mention that the temperature here in Atlanta today is 70F,or 22C. Summertime in Linköping! I don’t think we are going to get snow this year for Christmas, but in 2010 we had snow on Christmas. The first time since 1882.
