On Saturday the 19th of May, we took a taxi to find a fabric store in downtown Copenhagen. I had found it mentioned on the web in a forum post which was a couple years old. It said that Syd Center was the best fabric shop in town. Well, I was disappointed. The Syd Center store was gone. The store was empty.
So, we started walking around looking at the other things in the area. After seeing a few stores, we were walking down a street, and I noticed those guys with the tall black furry caps, ahead of us. You know… the Copenhagen Royal Guards.
They were assembling at Rosenberg castle. This is near the barracks complex, not the residence of the royalty. It was about 11:30, and they were preparing for the “Vagtparade” (Danish), or parade to the Amalienborg Palace (residence of the queen). When the queen or other royal family members are home, the marchers are accompanied with the band. Otherwise, the band is with the queen, and they march silently.
Look what we saw:
Then they continued down the street to Amalienborg Palace. Where the official changing of the guards will take place.
